I have been told there is a medicaid program that automatically covers "disabled" infants for the first year, regardless of income. Does anyone know about this? I have a general medicaid app here and they ask for so much info and much is specific to resources/income (which we might be a tad over to qualify)...and am wondering do I still fill it all out anyways??? I have been holding to talk to someone for near an hour now!!!

I'm in NY, but I also knew we wouldn't qualify for medicaid d/t income. I was told to apply anyways by the hospital social worker, unsure why in retrospect. In NY if the baby is in the hospital for prolonged time(cannot remember how long), usually premeeies qualify, you automatically qualify for medicaid. Our Early Intervention Program social worker has been trying to get my daughter the Medicaid waiver, denied just recently. She said we'd try again though. I too was on hold ...trying to fill out those lengthy forms. Hang in there.

in our area of Tx if a mother comes in too deliver and has no insurance medicaid is applied for by the case workers at the hospital and it covers the mom for six months and the baby for a year. after the year they have to recertify the baby which means check the income.... you get application for SSI but it is based on families income with the approval for ssi the baby gets medicaid but if the income is too high child loses medicaid the income levels are $3,000 for a two parent family and $1,500.00 for a single parent family and as you all know that is easily met pretty quick that is why my son no longer has medicaid.... and regular insurance won't cover "pre-existing" conditions so it is not a fair system...........I would say just apply and for ssi as well and see what is available to your child.
