Hi, I have a 15 month old with SB and Hydro. He is doing well with head control when we hold him in a sitting position but we would like to find him a seat so we can play with him on the floor and work on some joint attention and mimicing for speech therapy exercises so he can look at us. Does anyone have any suggestions? He can do a prop sit but is not sitting up on his own yet and is too little for the bumbo seat. Thank you!:happy065:

my daughter has never been able to sit right in a bumbo and didnt have the support she needed she used to slope to one side in it. Here in the uk my physio recomended a chair called the Bee chair. It was given to us by a charity and she sits in it great. It has really helped her to sit up a lot more. It isnt floor level but you can raise and lower it and i found it wasnt such a strain on my back!!

My daughter started using a Bumbo seat when she was 8 months old. she loves it. I found it helped improve her head control. She can even reach toys on the floor while sitting in it. The only thing the physio therappist doesn't like about it is that it holds hhteir legs up a bit which it's good for maggie since her hip flexers are really tight.

She was in a Pavlik harness for 4 months and has to lay flat on her back which I think delayed her ability to control her head and sit up. She is now almost 10 months and can sit up for only a couple of minutes but she is getting better.

The physio recommends lots of tummy time and sitting with me just holding her legs to make Maggie do the work herself.

The main problem with Bumbo and similar seats is that they provide too much support and so don't let essential muscles get proper exercise. Use them only with advice from a physiotherapist or orthopeadic specialist.

Our physio also disapproves of the bumbo seat , i had seen them when Cadon was very little and thought that it might help him , she said that it would do the opposite. So no Bumbo seat for us!!!

Micah did fine with a Bumbo... and our PT was fine with it too. What about a jumperoo or similar?
