Does anyone here get headaches when the barometic pressure changes? My son does but then his DR was saying that there are alot of people with hydro that get headaches around full moons. I hadn't heard that one. Anyone experience that?

We live in Florida, I remember when we were having a lot of hurricanes and the pressures where changing that Sam had some sort of symptom. I think he was extra tired. He doesn't complain about headaches too often. If my brain could remember yesterday, maybe I could remember his real symptoms. But anyway, I remember discussing it with my husband that it was probably due to the extreme pressure changes due to the weather. I will look for a pattern when it comes to the full moon. That is interesting.

my husband took my son to the carnaval a couple weeks back, I was really worried about him going on some of the rides, I thought it might affect the pressure in his shunt. My hubby kept saying, dont worry so much. at one point one of the rides scared me, and I couldnt watch. but, nothing happened to my son, he was just full of smiles, and they have been talking about how much fun they had for days now. was I just being over protective, or could these rides effect the pressure?

I don't know about rides. I worried about it when we flew for six hours this summer but he was fine. Those carnival rides make me sick and I don't have a shunt :o

We , again, live in Florida, the land of hurricanes and theme parks.!! Therefore, Sam has been on many rollercoaster and has not been affected. The Dr.'s here say it's okay to ride roller coasters with a shunt!!
They did tell us no scuba diving, sky diving, or bungee cord jumping. I decided to tell all my kids that they have shunts!!

ROFL!!!

Off Topic: Is there any news on that Harry Potter theme park being built in FL? We were in FL for 14 days this spring and had a great time. I know the boys will want to go back if that Harry Potter park becomes a reality!

I don't pay much heed to the weather details, so this barometric issue is new to me. But as far as rides, for the most part, in childhood, they would put my shunt out of whack, and I thought that was universal.

But I was at Kennywood in my late 20's. I suffered nausea on one ride, but it abated quickly, with no other shunt systems. Sooo....not sur what to say. I'm not really into that stuff anymore though.

thanks eng188, so I wasnt completely being over protective with my son. so I guess it is best to be on the watch, with rides. its possible maybe every child reacts differently.
going to keep my eyes open when the weather is bad to see if it affects my son or not...thanks

It is possible that every child reacts differently, however it is also possible that these issues are pretty uiversal to children, but tend to die off in adulthood. Childhood is, for instance, when all the revisions seem to take place.

okay so hmmm you all have me thinking now. My daughter is 12 with sb, hydro, arnold chairi II and shunted. She has been having these headaches for about 3 years, numerous testing done but nothing comes of it. now I was just reading up on everyone talking about bar. pressure....could that be the issue. sometimes she calls them eye headaches(says it hurts when she moves her eyes) and then she has some that are just normal headaches in the front. what does everyone think

She might have slit ventricle syndrome which then would mean that the shunt malfunction wouldn't show up on a ct. I believe they do show up on an MRI though. I have it, but just recently started to having intermittent shunt malfunctions, so trying to get into a neurosurgeon at the moment. My neurologist thinks that my old peds neuro might see me.

On the barimetric pressure issue...I hate hurricanes! I also live in FL and can always tell when it is planning on rainning or there is a hurricane/tropical storm near by. Right now we are getting ready to get a cold front with rain tonight and I woke up with a headache and still have it. I also can feel the fluid backing up in my neck. Weird I know. I was told that it was pretty normal.

she has had so many Cts and MRIs you think they would have said something by now But heres the thing, We are military....or my husband is, we just follow LOL. but we just moved to Maryland from Hawaii in Aug. so the doctors are always changing. Her neck was fused and so i thought that would cure it, but nope it didnt. so I thought Maybe I would bring up bar pressure and the slit vent. even though I have no idea how either works.

I know this is a bit off topic, but does anyone else have issues with their scars when the barometric pressure goes out of whack? I live in Louisiana, land of hurricanes and just generally schitzophrenic weather. My family always calls me their little weather woman because my scars always act up when there's a front about to come in.

I always get headaches or pressure in my neck when the pressure goes crazy. I can tell you about a week in advance when a hurricane pops up...lol. I live in FL, so we have a lot of them as well.
