My sons chair has a sling back..I think...Any how he has the kyphosis,,,his back protrudes, and is constantly rubbing a sore on it. Just wondering if any one has had this issue and what type of mods did they do to the chair?? I am going to talk to the wheel chair place...see if they know. Although the on he is using doesnt seem to be too knowledgable!! Maybe a backing that has an opening for the protrusion>????`~~ Thanx!

They should be doing a mold of his back and making a back that is made just for him. This is coming from someone that works at a wheelchair company.

Making a back cushion to fit him is really not rocket science!!! Any competent wheelchair dealer/fitter should be able to do it.

Actually it is quite annoying and time consuming. You have to send the mold off to actually be made. Plus you have to have a special chair to do it in. So, some companies just don't take the time to do it.

Actually mine was molded for me right on the spot. They mixed these two chemicals in a bag and made me sit normally against it. It got pretty warm, but it was really cool.

Yea it molded on the spot, but the cushion and cover have to be made, so the mold is sent away for that to happen and still is complicated. Now if they did the whole thing at their shop then all I have to say is "WOW." Lol. Most companies just aren't qualified for it. Even my company that works almost the entire state of Florida has to have the mold sent off to make the actual cushion. And we have a Quickie rep that works with us...lol.

Im no expert on these things but could the height of the backrest be a problem? My partners is very low and still supports her but doesnt put pressure on her back which would cause pain. If your not sure what i mean i will try and find or get a photo to show what i mean.

Thats only because you Americans must always insist on the fanciest most complicated and sophisticated method for doing anything! :sign0020:
It reminds me of the story of NASA spending a pile of money having a ballpoint pen developed that would work in zero gravity (orbit). Shortly after perfecting it they asked the Russians how they solved the problem. The Russians replied "What problem? We use pencils!"
My seat back has a "pocket" that is simply filled with various pieces of sponge rubber, cut and shaped (with a kitchen knife) to fit. It took no more than half an hour to customise my seat back to fit the slight twist to the right that I have at the upper lumbar area.
