I am having hardware problems.....I hear some volume on my PC (like when I receive a new message or throw something into the Recycle Bin) yet when going on to a web page or trying to listen to my downloaded music---nothing. I have tried to do the whole re-adding -of -the- volume icon- to-the- taskbar thing, yet I can't because it says there is no audio device. I can't seem to fix it

I am not sure if you have done any of this but here are my suggestions.

1. Go to your Control Panel; Sound, Speech and Audio Devices; and then check all the options to see if perhaps one of them has been altered and is causing the problem.

2. Go to My Computer; on the left hand side you will see SYSTEM TASKS; click on View System Information; choose the Hardware Tab; Go down the list til you find the Sound Devices and open it to make sure there are sound devices equipped.

3. If all else fails, you may have accidentally altered your sound device; go to your Control Panel; Performance and Maintenance; on the left hand side you will see additional options under See Also; click on System Restore; If you remember what day the problem started occuring, restore your system from a date a few days before it.

Hope one of these work for you! If not, sorry :(

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them....I have tried the system restore....when I rebooted it said it couldn't be completed ( or something to that effect) I may try again though....I'll also go about trying the other suggestions....again, thank you!

Sounds like your "Audio card" may be going,if you're running Windows XP...

click start > right click my computer > click properties > Click hardware > click device manager > scroll down til you see "sound, video and game controllers" > click on the plus sign and look for your audio card and right click on that > click properties and that should tell you if the device is working properly.

Good Luck

It tells me that all the devices are working properly yet the section under volume still say there is no sudio device present. I have tried downloading realtek hd, yet when I restart as instructed, it still says nothing is there. On top of that my Mcafee is not fully protecting my computer. Looks to be a virus.....do you guys know of any good places that repair??? Best Buy isn't one of them I haven't had good luck with them.....Thanks for all the suggestions

I'm In IL.....can I download that without interrupting the Mcafee?? I tried downloading AVG and it didnt work. I can't figure out how to disable it (the Mcafee) if needed. I got it installed for me when I signed up for my cable. I have heard that Avast is good, though

Im not sure how you disable Macaffe but i would uninstall it completly and then download Avast. Im sure someone else will be along who knows Macaffe better.

Or have a look on the Macaffe website and see if they can help with disabling it.

Try right clicking on the icon in the task bar and unchecking "enable"
I think Justy may still have a hardware prob. or and issue with drivers. Not really sure as I can't personally access her computer to have a look see.

hey Gymp :)....Yeah, that's true I may just have a problem with the drivers....so, how would that effect the antivirus? I am trying to acquire as much knowledge as I can so that I know what to do if this should ever happen again. I'm gonna have to get it looked at, as everything I have tried hasn't worked.

It shouldn't affect you AV app.no!

On the wife's box,the motherboard has the audio card incorporated into the MB.It's a RealTek Audio 5.1 I think.

I remember hearing of issues about sound not working on that audio card after a Microsoft update. Do you have RealTek and did you receive any updates from microsoft? The wife hasn't had any issues but I've heard of many.

Her's an example of what I mean...

This one speaks of the windows update issue with realtek...

Don't uninstall your AV.update it.

If you don't have an anti spyware app go here and download Adaware...(it's free) Install update and run it.
