As the title states, I'm just curious. How long has everyone's VP Shunt lasted?
I actually just had my first revision last year. It was a preventative measure as well. It was broken in 3 places but, there was a calcium channel that formed and it just went on functioning.
Probably would have held on for a lot longer to. So, 20 years for me.
We are on 8 years right now. Carter is only 10

Well, I had the shunt put in at 2 days old. My first revision was when I was 2 or 3 years old, 3 days after a car accdent where my head got hit..then, until 2002, when I was 17, I had another revision..scary story about that-we went to University of Michigan for my yearly CT scan and check-up..had the scan done and then the dr appointment right after..the dr came in, put the scans up on the light board, stared at em for 10-15 seconds, switched em around, stared again, and switched em around AGAIN and then turns around, looks at me and goes "it's broken". I was scared crapless!! I had NO symptoms of a malfunction..the reason why, is because it broke at the connector in my neck area..scar tissue had built up around it so it was staying together and still working, so I never knew it was broken.
that was the last one I had..been fine since then (knock on wood that it'll stay that way)..

I was 10 when I had my first revision. Like you mine had come out of place and it looked like I didn't need it. 3 months later it malfunctioned...lol. I was then 12 when I had 7 more shunt surgeries due to a shunt infection. I am 25 and haven't had one since.
I had my first revision at 6 weeks old. The doctors realised it was slightly out of place but didn't want to touch it. I've had the same one since and I am 22 years old :sign0008:
My daughter's shunt was placed at 2 weeks and she had her first revision one week later. For the next 3 1/2 years she had about 32 shunt surgeries, mostly for malfunctions, but a few were infections. She had 3 Chiari decompressions which made her shunt malfunction shortly after. Now she is 11 and her shunt has lasted for 7 years.

My shunt saved my life. I was undiagnosed for almost 5c years, whereas my quality of life went way down hill. After having my first surgery, my grades in school improved dramatically and so did my balance as well as coordination. Shunt surgery isn't fun, I have had 4 revisions, and being as I am still young, they feel as though they may need to do more. My first surgery was done at age 17, I am now 29 and the last time I had my surgery, they used a diifferent type of tube.
