has anyone ever tried to make a purchase online, only to have the transaction denied? I am not maxed out on the card by any means yet the transactions keep being denied. I have tried a few different cards, all of which carry low balances. I can't seem to find any answers as to why this is happening. So, I thought I would turn to you guys and see what you can tell me. It's infuriating :33a:

Hey Justy,

Are you able to complete the purchase, only to have it denied?

yes it goes through apparently, and then I get an email stating that I need to call and give updated credit card info. It is driving me up a wall and I can't seem to find anything in customer service that helps me. I don't get it

I'm betting it is a security issue. The company you are trying to buy from may have had a security breech and may be requiring additional information from some or all customers. It could also be that your credit card company is doing a security check - although it is odd that it would affect more than one of your cards.

I think you are going to have to call the company you're trying to buy from to determine if it is their issue or your credit card company's issue.

If any of the companies you're trying to deal with (credit card co. or the co. you're buying from) has had a security breech, ask if they are paying for a security monitoriing service for their customers (they should). If not, you should at least contact the three major credit monitoring firms (Experion, TransUnion, and ??) and put a security watch. Or you could have new credit cards issued.

You might want to get a free credit statement from each of the monitoring firms just to make sure you haven't been a victim of identity theft.
