Just throwing this out there-
We got another SB "surprise" this week! Our 16 year old, who has never had any problems even remotely related to SB was diagnosed with an occulta! She had had a pilonidal cyst removed, and then developed back pain several centimeters above that lesion. She also had some swelling in the painful area. It just wouldn't go away, and she finally asked me to have a look. Well, long story short, 2 pediatrician's visits and one orthopedist visit later she is confirmed with SBO.
We had always wondered if there was anything there, and now we know, which is a little bit of a relief. She has the strawberry birthmark on her back where all this action was. When her sister was born with full blown SB, all the specialists we met got all excited about the mark, but she potty trained well, and never had any problems.
Anyone else have a similar story?

I sort of do. When I was born, my parents went around the family asking questions to see if I might have inherited it. Turned out I had a few distant cousins that had it. Well as I got older, I had a great aunt that was suffering from severe alzheimers. My great aunt had always had trouble with her bowels and her bladder but everyone always just wrote it off as she just had troubles with that. Well one day my mom had to help my great aunt into the bathtub. That's when she saw it. A strawberry birthmark just like in all the classic textbooks. Turned out she had SBO, but we didn't find out until she was in her eighties!

my 12 year old son has SBO. I have sb myleo and they of course were looking him over completly to make sure he was ok when he was born so they found it then. He has had surgeries and bladder issues severe bowel issues. However you can' tell by looking at him on the outside that he has any problems at all. He also has a strawberry birthmark actually several little red splotches in a bunch at the base of his back.

No - the birthmark would have to be over his spine to be significant.
It could be a strawberry mark, a mole, a hairy spot or a dimple.

Has he had a urodynamic study or ultrasound to see if he is completely emptying his bladder? The u/s is really simple and not expensive like urodynamics. They would hhave him empty his bladder on his own and then check it with ultrasound to see if he completely emptied it. If he doesn't, you should probably consider cathing.

I have the worst form of SB but it's very mild-I think thats Myleo, I keep forgetting- but anyway last night my mom told me her and my aunt think my 29 year old cousin has occulta because she has bladder problems and back problems and she has a wierd mark at the bottom of her spine. If she does would an MRI be able to detect it or how would someone find out

Absolutely yes!
She must have it checked - whether by MRI or other means doesn't really matter, she should see a neurologist ASAP!

But with just what you've told us so far I have no doubt at all that she does have occulta. She has all the signs and symptoms straight out of the textbook.

I also have a first cousin with a malformed lumbar vertebra - but luckily she has no neurological damage.
