Hey guys,
I just had to share that i got my new wheelchair today. I have never had one that fits quite right before this one. My whole life i have had to sit on my legs or sit on the arm rest to be tall enough to do anything (dishes, laundry, cooking etc..) This one is awesome. It is ultra light weight and it comes apart so i can put it in and out of my vehicle by myself. I am SO TALL now that i can shop easier, cook and everything else. I did my dishes immediatly when i came home and i have never enjoied doing them so much lol. My butt is extreamly happy about it as sitting on an arm rest (that the cushion came out of years ago) is slightly uncomfortable. I bet it will releve a lot of back pain as well.
Just had to share:dance2:

I think the brand is called quickee or something like that. I got it from a place called presque isle rehab technologies. They are awesome. The guy wants to make sure everything is so perfect!! If you can't order the chair EXACTLY the way you want it or need it then the guys there will fabricate anything they have to to make it perfect for you!!
As for sitting on the arm rest i put my feet in the seat so that helped balance things out a little. I have very good balance. I always have which i know a lot of people with SB don't have that. I have fallen out of that chair in every way you can immagine so even with good balance i have taken more than my share of spills.
My butt is VERY thankful for this!!!! Sitting on the arm rest for several hours at work and then going home to do the same thing so i can reach everything really causes a lot of discomfort!!
I can sit at my desk while typing this with no back pain at all. Some of the simplest little adjustments can make all the difference.
LIFE IS GOOD!!!!

Quickie is one of the biggest wheelchair brands worldwide - its a division of www.sunrisemedical.com (http://www.sunrisemedical.com)
I would really appreciate it if you can find the model you have on the site and show us. I'll be shopping for a lighter more compact travelling chair sooner rather than later and Quickie have a few models in that class.

Dodger..
Have you looked at the TiLite yet? We're going to be looking at one for Analise soon. I know many people who are extremely satisfied with their TiLite. We currently have a Freedom Designs Tripod-- our first ped. wheelchair and are not safisfied with it. It's a cute little chair but it's far too heavy!

Given the very poor exchange rate between US$ and SA Rand TiLite is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY outside of my price range - those chairs cost more than a good 2nd hand car!
There are also a few European makers represented here that also have interesting product.
I can of course also go back to the people who made my current chair and see what they have available - with the advantage of being a custom job rather than off the rack as in the case of the imports.
My current chair weighs over 50 pounds but it is seriously tough. It is a drag to get it in and out of my car though - thats why I'm beginning to look for something lighter.

I looked on it and it said quickie GTX. Is that the type or should i look somewhere else for more specifics. I have only had 2 chairs in my life time so i am not really good with specifics.
I do know mine is concidered an ultra light chair. The wheels pop off of it so you can put it in a car. The seat comes off and the foot plate pops off as well. I know the footplate was specially fabricated i am not sure about the seat.

The Quickie GTX looks about like what I need - though I'll also consider a rigid frame.
Just not too sure how robust it is for a 70kg/155pound user like me. I'm very hard on my chairs.
Back in my teens I totally wrecked 2 "lightweights" within a couple of months.

Yeah, that's the model. I have a Quickie GP myself. It's a rigid frame, but if you take the seat off and pull a string in the back, the back folds down and you can pop the wheels in to put it in a car. It's still a bit bulky to put in a car, but it's oh so comfortable. Though I wanted to steal the pin the guy who fixed it for me was wearing. It read "Wanna a quickie?" lol

Haha...I just read this. The quickie rep that is close with our business has a shirt that says the same thing. She actually is dating a guy from our office. So, we always tease him.
On the wheelchair front after being in a TiSport for 5 years I refused to go back to a Quickie. Even after the company I work for is such a big supporter of them. I am now in a Invacare Crossfire which I love, love! Quickies are so basic now compared to others that are out there now. They have also discontinued a few wheelchairs just recently that were a big hit and have added a new one called a Quickie Lite. It is a folding chair though. I also only do rigids, so I am picky. I had to beg and plead with my work for the chair that I have now. They of course wanted me in a Quickie and didn't get why I said no. If my insurance would pay for one I would have been back in a Ti.
