Hi I'm new here, just wondering if anyone else has experienced a blocked shunt with the result of scarring on optic nerve/blindness?

My son is 18 and had his first shunt at 2 months old. This shunt lasted until he was 9 when it failed. He didn't have any of the normal symptoms (vomiting, headaches) it was noticed at school that he was struggling to see the board. I took him for a routine eye examination and fortunately the opthalmolagist picked up the problem and within 4 hours he was in surgery have a new shunt inserted. Ii was told that had the surgery not been done at this point he would have had serious brain damage as the pressure was that high!

So far this shunt has performed well and he has not had anymore detrioration of his sight (he was left with 20% vision in just one eye).

Anyone else had a similar experience?
