My son Danny will be turning 2 in September. I noticed in the last few weeks that he does not eat very much. I didnt think anything of it until I saw my cousins much younger babies eating table food. He does eat but he never takes more than a bite or two. And the only things he will eat are soft that he doesnt have to chew (oatmeal, bananas..gerber) or I have to cut it into little pieces. I know he is still young but it worries me that he never picks something up and eats. He is still on a bottle and I know that has something to do with it. When he was born he had swalloing problem and they wanted to thicken his formula, I never really bought the thickened and just bought the Enfamil AR for kids that spit up alot because it is thicker.

It might be a texture thing. I know at the age of 26 I still have issues with certain things. Maybe seeing an OT or speech therapist would help. I know where I live we also have a special eating therapist that helps kids with eating problems. So, you might be able to find one at your local hospital or childrens hospital.

Speaking from experience with a child who does not have SB, but who drank a lot of formula from a bottle, I think you should scale that back first. We started trying to take the bottle away from our daughter at 1 year, but she wouldn't eat that much table food. So, we kept giving her the bottle. That went on for about 4 months and we finally took the bottle away then. She's still not a champion eater, but she does a lot better. I would try limiting your child's liquid intake (not all at once), which should increase his appetite.
My point is it may not be as serious as you think. He may just be getting all his caloric needs from his bottle.

Good Luck!

I would agree with the above posters. We were having trouble initially getting our sons to eat much solid food and their doctor suggested offering them solid food first prior to their bottle 2-3 times a day and that helped a lot. When they were hungry, they were more motivated to eat. Now having said that one of my sons is having issues with textures and does work with a feeding therapist. I would check in with your pediatrician and if they are concerned, they might do a referral or offer more help. Best of luck!!!
