View Full Version : Is this a shunt problem????
Lately I have noticed that my sons one eye seems to go astray every once and awhile when he is watching tv or trying to focus on something too much. Ive made a doctors appointment for next weel, but Im worried could this be some kind of pressure because the shunt is not working any more? or could it be just eye strain or weekness?

Do they go in or out?? I asked Cadon's orthoptist at his last check -up, his eyes go out a little when focusing on objects in the distance, as my other son's did (he had an op to correct it last year) She said that going out is just a squint, In Cadon and my other son's case it's hereditary as their father has it but it's ony noticeable when he's really tired. If they go in, they she would be more concerned as hydro shows up this way.
my sons eye is going out but not always noticeable.

I found out at nyelo clinic a few weeks ago that anyone with hydrocephalus is more likely to have eye problems than the average person. They sent Sweet pea for an eye exam as a routine part of clinic that day. I'd have an opthamologist (a pediatric one, preferably!) check it out.
we have an appointment for next week. hopefully he just needs glasses. thanks for caring

We've had several appointments with a pediatric opthamologist too. One of Alex's eyes goes in though, looks crossed at times. What is really reassuring is that the doc can look right into the eye and see if its due to fluid or pressure signaling a shunt issue or not. In our case he reassured us it wasn't. Alex wears an eye patch now for a couple hours a day on his good eye to make his "lazy" eye work harder. I hope its nothing serious for your child, best of luck!!!
so the doctor will be able to tell if its a shunt problem or not when he examines my sons eye?Thats good to know
