Hi everyone,

I'm a pediatric physical therapist whose clientele are newborn to 3 years old. I have been working very closely with a (now) 2 1/2 year old and have fallen absolutely in love with her and her family!!! They speak little English and have little ascess to the internet, so I will be asking questions for them and myself from time to time, and would welcome any questions without disclosing any of my clients personal identification info. We've had a wonderful experience so far...she's now walking through grass with few falls, but is having great difficulty with bowel and bladder incontinence. When she hasn't had a bowel movement for a few days, she sometimes will develop red sores around her mouth...her moms says this is the only time she develops these. I'm not sure if this is usual, but will be reading the meassage board often to hopefully read about similar experiences.

Thanks,
H

Hello and welcome!
It would help us if you could give us more specific detail about the kid. The basics such as the site of her lesion, does she have hydrocephalus, what bracing if any does she use for walking, etc...
About her incontinence - we've all been there! She needs to get a really good urologist! Thats the one medical specialist she will be the most involved with for the rest of her life. The sores associated with constipation could be a consequence of toxicity of the bowel.

I am a 40 year old male South African with meningeceole (thats the hardest word in the english language to spell correctly! LOL) at L1/2 - no HC - no TC.
A urologist is the the only specialist I still see. I havn't seen a neurologist since I was a baby, the last time I saw an orthopeadic surgeon I was 13-14. I have not consulted a physiotherapist in more than 20 years. (The informal consultation two weeks ago about carpal tunnel syndrome doesn't count because its not related to SB :p)

hi and welcome! incontience problems are normal, so as dodger said she must find a urologist, for that. about the sores around the mouth, my son has never had sores around his mouth, so maybe its related to something else, or as dodger said.
