Our son Addison is nine years old and has been going through school this year and holding on by a thread. We have gone through some testing to pinpoint his actual learning issues with our doctors and to find the right solutions for him in school. The problem is that I am having a very hard time getting the school or the local area education agency to act on the recommendations that the doctors have for him to help with his school day. He was put on Ritalin last year for his ADD-ADHD this worked last year with grades up to the B range. This year the school has pushed three classrooms into two and cut teachers due to budget. He was given the diagnosis of a non verbal learning disorder and this is new but everything fits for him in the explanation from the doctors. He was cut from his IEP three years ago because he did not qualify and now they don't know if he will even be qualify for one now. Also he had a major ortho surgery in October and is now beginning to walk with the walker and of course this in not helping with the school issues either. I feel like we are getting no where fast the school year is half over here and I want him to get the best grades he can. Any sug gestions???

How on earth does he NOT qualify for an IEP when he has a diagnosed learning disorder AND physical disability? I'm sorry you're both having to go through this. Wish I had some wisdom to offer. The only thing I can think of at this point is a lawsuit!
