Have you read any good insirational books, self esteem building, confidence building books, self help books that you could recommend?

For a friend, of course! lol.
I am asking for a friend. I have read some of several over the years. I guess if they were good I'd remember them.
I can remember one I read maannny years ago, can't remember the author, it's called 'Your OK I'm OK' yellow cover red writing.
I've seen it used in some comedy sketch (feeding the stigma)????? if you have it in your bookshelf?????sad and needy.
I was in my 20s when I read it, it really lifted me up and I'm still OK.
Now in my 50s Ekhart Tolle's, 'New Earth' has lifted me up.

Has anyone read any of the Spina Bifida books?
I read some of one by an Aussie Olympic winner SB, it just annoyed the crap out of me, everything was so bloody wonderful. This person 'always had it all'
I guess that was the market, for people who have it all.
Thanks sean.:happy065:

Hii Sean The title of the book 'your ok I am ok' itself is very uplifting. How nice it would have been, if I had a chance to read it. :)

Hmmmmmm....
Electronics 101 - Can't say that book would help you but it's helped me plenty.

I once read a book about young adults coping with spina bifida,it was so good I no longer have it or remember the name,it sucked!

Sorry Sean, the only books I seem to read are text books.

This book is very good- I'm almost done with it. It's about a lady born with sb, and it is very honest and realistic about all her struggles, etc. but has an awesome message. It is called "Determined to Win- the overcoming spirit of Jean Driscoll." I think I paid .99 for it on Amazon. Her website is www.jeandriscoll.com.

Hi there,

I'm OK You're Ok is by Thomas A Harris MD. I have it but I can't find where I've put it. I hate it when people feed the stigma of any kind of self-help or anything related to mental health!! The brain is an organ too so it also needs looking after. If we've got a problem are we just supposed to ignore it?!

Rant over-it really, really winds me up!!

I've read Overcoming Low Self Esteem by Melanie Fennel. It's very good. http://www.overcoming.co.uk/single.htm?ipg=5230

Starting next week a bunch of my friends and I are going to be reading this book called "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin together. (One of my friends knows the author). Here's a link to the author's blog if you want to take a peek. http://www.happiness-project.com/

The Prophet by Khalil Gibran.
A small book of "sermons" about a wide variety of life's issues set into the form of a story of a prophet. It is not religious as such but addresses the questions in a way that is accessable to anyone no matter their beliefs, or non-beliefs.

I quoted the part about raising children here some time ago.

Dec. 27th 2009 ,they quoted the same part of raising childern, from Khalil Gibran's book, in our church for a Sunday service. I jot it down from the liturgical paper. Truly it is very interesting.

How you all post the link? I am unable to do so.

Thanks everyone, I know I originally wanted titles to recommend to a friend......who is totally not interested in reading!, but I want to read these books. I'm half way through 'The Monk Who Sold his Ferrari', thouroughly enjoying it, easy to read. I have 'Learned Optomism' on order at the local.
They all sound great thanks.
Bugger! The Prophet by Khalil Gibran, sat in a bookshelf where I lived for ten years, I never read it, my partner did........wonder if he still has it.... I feel destined to read it now.
