I just found this product. I can't wait to get one, because this is the one thing Lizzie can't do on her own when self-cathing.

The product is called a "knee spreader with mirror."

On the following site, it is the 4th product down in the 2nd column:

Just thought some of you might could use something like this too!

Thanks for sharing! Analise is a little young yet.. but maybe next year we'll get started. Please be sure to tell us what you think of the product after using it. It is expensive (but hopefully worth it!).

I found one for cheaper at Allegro:

Great stuff! Wish I'd thought of it!
Unfortunately it doesn't look very handbag friendly.

I wish they had this sort of thing when I was learning to self-cath! I remember having my Mum or the Nurse at school holding the mirror so I could see what I was doing. Would have been great to be able to do it all myself!! Even now I have massive problems with the fact my legs are hard to get apart, so my arm/hand is sometimes kind of jammed in between my legs to get to the catheter in. Don't so much need the mirror, but the spreader would STILL be a good idea even as an adult!

They didn't have this product when I had to learn how to cath myself either. When I was first learning how to do it they had a hand mirror that I had to hold in one hand and the cath in the other hand while laying down. Eventually I learned how to cath myself on the toilet, I just feel with my fingers where to place the cath. It was difficult at first but now I can cath myself just as fast as any other able bodied person can use the bathroom.
