i know you arent supposed to eat bananas and kiwis and a few other things. when you go to the dentist or any doctor who will be touching you with gloves, you can let them know and they have special gloves that arent latex based. also, with condoms, they have that lambskin stuff, but it doesnt protect from hiv, and they recently came out with something new that does. im not sure what its called, but the pharmacy would be able to tell you.

my best friend is allergic to latex. she can still eat bananas, and latex exam gloves dont bother her, but prolonged exposure gives her a rash. so i guess all that depends on how severe your allergies are.

Here is a good list of things that contain latex. If you poke around a bit more on the net you will find more comprehensive lists of kids toys, common products and so on

We found out that C was truly allergic when he had an anaphaltic response to some antibiotics shot through a latex port in his IV years ago. Since then he has reacted to common things like a rubber snake, rooms filled with balloons (like Chuck E. Cheese) and rubber lids on some old jars.

i have had a latex allergy for about 15 years. I first noticed it when blowing up balloons for a party and then another time at the dentist. Lucky for me both times did not cause a major reaction, just a rash. Over the years I've been a lot more careful. I try to keep away from all rubber and latex products. I ask restaurants if they use latex gloves or make them aware of my allergy to be on the safe side. ONE THING for sure is you have to remind doctors all the time. A lot of doctor/dentist offices do have non-latex/vinyl gloves but most don't look at your chart and its good to remind them before they have a chance to reach for them...even if you were there a week ago. And hospitals are probably worse because even with a big sign posted outside of your door, on the chart and a big red wristband, doctors and nurses still come in and grab the latex gloves. I would have to wake up at night during hospital stays to be sure no latex was involved during vitals or IV injections. When I travel I make sure the people I am with know about the allergy as well as friends. I use to be a little embarrassed but its a lot more common these days.

I wanna make one key note here with latex allergy. The more you are exposed to latex, the better your chances are of developing the allergy. Even in hospitals now-a-days, more and more medical personnel are developing the allergy due to continously being around the latex. One of my children just has latex precautions - has not developed into an allergy as of yet. The other actually has the allergy and develops a deep red rash from it. The more she is exposed to latex, the better the odds of her developing a servere allergy - such as breathing issues.
