Hi Everyone I have a question more about treatment diffrences than the shunt pressures. As most of you know my family and I recently moved from Germany to Washington State. While in Germany we were being treated by the Kinderklinik at the University of Erlangen. The doctors there were great and we came to trust them a lot. Before we left for America they adjusted the pressure on my sons shunt to 160. Just last week my wife and went for the first visit with the neurological team and the childrens hospital in Seattle. The first thing the doctors told us was that our sons pressure was to high that it needed to be adjusted to 80. But they are waiting until our next appointment in November to do it. My son is fine right now. He eats well is develpoing well with no signs of malfunction or any problem with his shunt. So why do they want to change the pressure? Is 160 going to hurt him later? Or if we let them make the change to 80 will that cause a problem for him? And why if it is so high did the doctors wait until November to change it? Learning the diffrences between 2 countries is hard. Has anyone else run into anything like this?

If at all possible, get a second opinion on this one. Lizzie's neuro won't touch her shunt unless she is showing signs of pressure. When she does show signs, he only dials her down by 10 (whatevers). She's only at 90 now. It seems to me that going from 160 to 80 would be such a drastic change in pressure that you would certainly at least run into headaches. It certainly doesn't sound right to me to change it so drastically especially when he is doing fine.
