Son just diagnosed

My son has just been diagnosed with Spina Bifida he's 12 years old!!

wow what type and how did they find it?

Well.. could be worse. He could've found out later in his life when it was too late to do something.

I was just diagnosed and am 28. I (and my mom!) were and are just as shocked as I am sure you are. Had my first appointment with a neurosurgeon who specializes in spina bifida. Apparently it is very common to be diagnosed later in life...my doc said yesterday that 1 in 10 are diagnosed with spina bifida occulta. I had and have lots of questions, as I am sure you do. (See my thread in the "adults" section.) Good luck and I urge you to use this forum for support...people on here are wonderful!

My daughter was also diagnosed with SBO at age 12. Her diagnosis was just this past May. It kind of sends you for a loop doesn't it. Is your son having any problems because of it? Has he had an MRI done yet?
