i have a perscription for a new recline wheelchair and was wondering what some of the cool new models are, does anyone know? it has to be able to accept a molded custom seating system.
I don't know much about recline chairs but I have been most impressed with these two companies:
http://www.colourswheelchair.com/
and
http://tilite.com/
We have had chairs made by both. Of the two, Colours is my favorite.

i have a custom made manual wheelchair, painted in rainbow colours, it cost me a fortune to have it painted that way. it also has 24 by 1 inch rear wheels and 3inch front castors ,hows that for cool.

I moved this thread to the apropriate section.
The last 3 chairs I have bought have all been "standard" foldng frame chairs, custom fitted to my dimensions by Chairman Industries of Johannesburg, South Africa. (Unfortunately they don't have a website.)
I will see about placing a pic or 2 in my album...

most of mine have been through our national health service, and have been designed by Lomax. I'm not saying that they are good though, I have needed a new one every year for the past 6 or 7 years, lol.

"Welfare wheelchairs" in SA (if you can get one) are utter rubbish!
My medical insurance is a "hospital plan" and as such does not pay for wheelchairs, or even everyday pills.
My "Chairman" wheelchair is expensive - and the imported Jay seat cushion cost almost as much as the chair!

A cushion thats the same price as a chair? you wouldn't have thought it would be possible, lol.

It was about 6 years ago.
Take one locally (South Africa) made chair, add one US made imported cushion, mix with a seriously screwy exchange rate....
I have just ordered a new cover for the cushion, it costs the same as 250 cans of Coke.:arrgh:

Whoa! That's a pretty pricey cover!
You have to get your cushion from America?? that's odd.

I'd say the only thing that is odd about it is that its not coming from China, though I'm pretty sure it is at least partially made there!
On an equipment picture taking binge this morning. Took some pictures of the two chairs C uses right now. The first is a Krypto made by Colours (http://www.colourswheelchair.com/)
The second is a YR made by Tilite (http://www.tilite.com/)
The Tilite is the one he prefers right now and has a titanium frame. He has no-flat tires on this one and spinergy wheels. It works well for indoor activities. It is 1 1/2 years old and those rims are pretty dinged up with no way to fix.
The Colours is awesome for outdoor activities. He has the older style twister wheels. This chair went through the growth program so it has some old and new parts. The air tires give it more cushion and are easier over rougher terrain. I personally like this one better and just have had a better working relationship with this company but that is our personal experience. Chair is 1 month old but the guards are off of his old Krypto which is why they are so dinged. The one place where I think that these kids Kryptos need to be improved is the tippers. They are very noisy and walking behind them you hit them. The Tilite tipper is silent and out of the way.
We have also had the Little Dipper by Colours and another Krypto by them as well.

Take the tippers off as soon as he is able to balance on the back wheels.
I never had tippers (sissy bars) and have the scar (4 stitches on the back of my head at about 8yo) to prove it. LOL!
Daddy will NOT allow it, nor does Cart want to. I have been fighting it for years!! C has a C2-C4 fusion and Dad is scared to death that he will fall on that. No lectures here with me, I totally agree but it is age old arguement around here
